Entries - Embellished Bowls/Platters

Turned very thin from Arizona Cypress with 4mm walls. Textured gridding has been coated with green/gold colour shift resin representing erosion exposing ancient bronze structure.  The bowl is 280mm D x 180mm H, finished with linseed oil and sealed with beeswax.

Wood: recycled rimu. Finish: Danish oil and super black Ink. Embellishment: Dremel work. Size: 170 mm wide x 70 mm high.

Made of beautiful ancient kauri, its can be used as a "Jewelry bowl" on the ladies dressing table or coffee table.  Its unique shape and wavy petals makes it delicate yet practical. D: 215 mm, H: 60 mm.

Ash crotch bowl with acrylic embossed lip of turquoise and green. Bubble wrap was used for the embossment.  The underside has long pine frongs in polymer resin. Dia 230mm x 40mm deep. Five coats of lacquer. Buffed Yorkshire grit.

Small serving platter, spalted ash, 21 cm diameter, 5.5cm high.

Wood type is unknown, salvaged from wood pile, beads created using D-WAY beading tools, one coat of oak stained linseed oil.  W=230mm and H=80mm.

This kahikatea bowl showcases the basket weave pyrography pattern on the exterior providing a ying/yang effect with the interior remaining natural.  Finished  with lacquer.  W 170mm  x H 75mm

Black walnut . Chisel carved, sanded down to 400 grit, 2 coats Danish oil, 4 coats Briwax, hand buffed.  Trickiest part to do were the grapes and tendril.  Length 320mm, Width 265mm, Depth 68mm.

This eucalyptus bowl with resin has highlighted the defects subtly but not to overpower the timber. It has a 7mm wall thickness.  Diameter: 235mm  Height: 115mm  Finish 30% lacquer.

Black walnut bowl with rewarewa inlaid rings. 95mm x 115 diam.  Fishies lacquer finish.

Oak embellishment - pyrography, polychromos pencil, clear acrylic, buffed.  Diameter 220mm Height 60mm.  A captivating Enchanted Garden, where fragrant flowers hang, brushing against you as you walk through a meadow of vibrant wildflowers. Soft light creates a dreamy atmosphere.

An elegant macrocarpa platter with pyrography rim and base.  Finished with sanding sealer and lacquer.   W:320mm round. (350mm high on the contrasting black stand).

This is a bowl with intersecting rings. The bowl is Moreton Bay fig with veneer laminations to form the intersection rings.  130mm wide, 85mm high.

This attractive nine sided wavy bowl is made from dark hardwood native puriri. An ideal "Jewelry bowl" for a lady's dressing table, the showcase or for the center of a coffee table.  D: 175 mm, H: 90 mm.

Kauri bowl, diameter 220mm, height 175mm.  Carved, then textured by pyrography and painted with acrylic paint.  Plain wooden parts are finished with carnauba wax.

Laminated walnut bowl with ash rim, retaining some of the natural wood features.  Approximate size 120mm wide and 60 high.

This laminated bowl is made from oak and gum.  295mm wide, 120mm high.
