This ancient kauri bowl has the most amazing colours and grain patterns in contrast to the plain root that emerges from within. Measuring 315 x 65 and standing on three carved feet, with dremelled dots on the exposed natural edges.

Any single piece of wood which retains a part of the natural surface of the wood as it was found.
This challenging piece was from an old granny smith apple tree full of burrs in our garden. Measures 320 x 155 x 110 and left chunky to retain the burrs and branch ends. Finished with Danish oil and wax.
This is a very delicate natural edge turned from an apple burr from a tree that grew in our garden. The sides are only 5mm thick and measuring 220mm wide x 95mm high and finished with Danish oil.

The base of an avocado that lost the competition with its neighbours. Finish is Danish oil. 230mm wide, 120 high.

This is a medium sized live edged bowl from a box elder burr.
Cherry root burl with natural edge wings. Size 600mm wide by 90mm high. Bowl is 375mm diameter. The bark is retained and cut edges scorched to blend. Coated with tung oil blend then Beall buffed to finish with carnauba wax.
Timber is a black maire burl. Cracking was from drying and stabilised with Co Glue once dried, allowing it to retain its form. French polish/shellac finish. W=175mm/H=65mm.
Coolibah burl 250w x 40h. Three delicate feet and carved detailed leaves which picture frame and draw the eye to the beauty of the bowl. The lightness of this piece is a delight to hold. Danish oil finish.
A chess set that doesn't take itself too seriously. The pieces are made of ash and ebonised pohutukawa. The board is made of albizia with ash and ebonised pohutukawa inlaid pieces. Board 650mm, tallest piece 115mm.
Whiteywood, turned green. Carved feathers to underside with carved totara feather added to stabilise crack. 290mm long x 175mm wide x75mm high x 4mm thick. Inspired by the sparrows I've watched come and go from this tree. Beall buff finish.
Ash Goblet with 7 rings. 112mm high.
Red mallee burl 300dia x 40h. Rim carved and embellished to create an illusion of leaves on the forest floor. The bowl is a pond darkened by the same falling leaf matter yet dappled light shines onto its surface.
A natural edge bowl measuring 250mm x 160mm high with growth ring patterns and light coloured timber flashes in the end grain. Finished by buffing with carnauba friction wax. The higher sides curve gently inward and issue sound if tapped.
Green turned, live edge pedunculate oak (Quercus robur), sanded when dry, nylon brushed, soybean oil, beeswax, carnauba wax. Dimensions: 29/27 cm diameter, 14 cm high.
Natural edge puriri bowl. The side has a hole caused by the puriri moth and left untouched; the rest of the bowl was carved and ebonised. Finished with Danish oil. 180mm x 105mm
Based on an Egyptian reed boat, turned from wet camphor laurel to a 2mm thin wall to allow natural movement of the piece. Finished with sanding sealer and Beall buffed to a high finish. W:230mm x H:90mm
