Any single piece of wood which retains a part of the natural surface of the wood as it was found.
A simple swamp kauri bowl to hold fruit. Aunty isn't into shiny things, so is finished off with Coopers Wood Moisturiser which provides a good matt finish. Bowl is 250mm diameter.
Matai wobbly bowl with natural edge, turned and embellished with pyrography and dyes, then finished in oil and lacquer. Dimensions: 130mm diameter, 100mm high.
Turned from a "Y" shaped crotch of highly figured Blackwood, featuring the beautiful contrasting creamy yellow cambium layer and dark brown heart. Finished with our own wax/oil wood polish. 330 L x 300 W x 65 H mm.
A Bowl turned from a Burl of unknown origin wrapped around a branch. The branch forms part of the base of the bowl and continues to the rim. Finish: Danish Oil buffed with wax. Size: D170mm x H60mm.

Walking along a Gisborne beach, a short length of driftwood stood out. I told my wife it thought it looked a bit like a whale...to which she said 'Yeah right'! And so the challenge was on! Wood is unknown. Rich in colour (like Rata), but is too light. Not sure what it is. Danish oil finish. Size is 300mm high and 400 wide.
Last of a larger Elm burr. Most of the bark was missing. It was so fractured and holey I wasn't sure it was turnable. Delighted it got a second chance at life! 110 Dia. x 165 H. Mirotone Danish Oil.
A lidded box of ancient swamp Kauri which exposed its beauty and its flaws as the outer layers were turned away. Contrasted with a new kauri cone knob, carved and painted. Finished with oil and wax to highlight the beauty of such a wizened and battered ancient piece of wood. Dimensions 135mm x 90mm
From small Cyprus about 60 years old 1.5 X 1.5 meters, Cut down early 2024, turned March 2025, very stable no warp or cracks. 26cm X 3.5cm Sanded to 400 grit, Beal buff, Hard burnishing Organic oil finish.
