"Burlesque" Burled Cypress concaved deep rimmed bowl, turned nice and thin with 6mm walls from top to bottom, finished off with Boiled Linseed oil then Tripoli and Carnauba wax buffed to seal off to a satin finish, 250mm diam x 100mm H.
This wood was pulled from a river in the Central North Island where it had fallen decades earlier. This has caused the colours to be a lot more distinct. Size: 145mm wide x 80mm high. Finish: Danish Oil

Four emerging bowls for children's sweet treats. The European beech block is turned on multi axis centres and supported on tapered legs. Laser engraved flying dandelion seeds emerging from the plants continue the emerging theme. 245mm x 245mm x 95mm

This Flight of Fancy Fascinator is designed to be worn. It is very light and measures 140mm diameter made from Kauri and Jacaranda with pyrography and painted Satin Black, The Button is Camphor painted red and adorned with natural Kahikatea shafts. The stand is made from Rosewood finished with sanding seal and beall buffed.

An unsolved mystery of its ancient use. Turned, carved Cypress vessel embelished with green/copper/gold pigment lacquers imitating Bronze Lattice caging , soaked in linseed oil finished off and sealed with satin lacquer, 250mm H x 200mm diam.
Rata flowers provide food for the native Fantail as it draws insects to the sweet nectar in the flowers. The family of three fantail carved on this vessel is inspired by watching the hyper-activity of these birds. 250mm high.

This multi-axis work has been turned to symbolise a canoe used to bring food on the great voyage from the seven Pacific group of Islands. The lids interlock to join the nations. Made with Kauri, Tawa and Ebony. 420mm long.

Felled by Cyclone Gabrielle and consigned to firewood this sliver of Raisin Tree (Hovenia Dulcis) was a lucky rescue. Finial of painted Black Maire with the remainder Beall buffed over a Danish Oil finish. 205mm H x 125mm W.

Red Mallee Burl carved with intricate leaves that are symbolic with this tree. The beauty of the raw burl is left as found with the three overlapping bowls to best show the treasure of the wood within. 200mm wide.

A Natural edge platter with edge painted black made from unknown species (it fell down in my garden) Measuring 156 x 70mm, the piece features three legs which because of the shape appear to be off balance. Finished with Sanding Sealer and Beall Buffed.

Hollowed form from cherry laurel. Carved and textured and finished with Indian ink, acrylic paints and acrylic matte sealer. Spikes carved from smoke bush and glued in with epoxy, then oiled to retain the vivid yellow colour. 44 cm length.
Pushing the experimental boundaries further; a decorative showpiece includes the stand. A combination of layering and foreshortening techniques gives a 3D effect. 310 Dia. x 70 H. Swamp Kauri, epoxy resin. Airbrushed designs. Mirotone 3242 sanding sealer, friction Carnauba wax.

The Kava ceremony is about fostering community bonding. Weaving is created by interlocking strands to form a single unit. Combining a Kava bowl and the weaving somehow conveys a sense of unity. 32 X 7cm, Pohutukawa, Rata weaving.
Sculpture
The inspiration to create this sculpture came from a recent Australian visit where I was able to see and photograph this beautiful bird. Carved from Tupelo Wood and painted with acrylics, it stands 270mm high.
Shell 96 is created from 37 laminated 4mm Meranti plywood and corrugated cardboard segments. 320mm high x 180mm wide excluding stand. Finished with thinned crystal clear epoxy resin with multiple coats of satin enamel clear coats.
Feeding Manta Ray carved from a single piece of unidentified timber. The tail, and base, are carbon fibre & Teak. 310mm wide, 330mm high
