A wooden model of a 1860's American type locomotive train. Made from a number of different types of woods. 430mm long, 150mm wide and 200 high. All finished in lacquer.

Any item made principally from one or many pieces of wood which may be embellished with other materials. This item may be carved, cut, pierced, decorated, coloured, textured or otherwise enhanced and is intended to be a non-functional ornament.
Set on a kauri plate (65mm dia), this lathe-turned kauri 50x50 block (55mm finished) was so cool to turn. Each segment was turned in air (you can only see once you've stopped) and became harder to turn as there was less wood to work with. The first four attempts were binned - 12 hours later, the finished article was born.
Natural focus; driving lines from Multi axis lathe work, with pyrography and carved texturing and shape , mica paint finish, 190mm long in recycled house Kauri.
"Devils Seed" Using Yakisugi technique carved fluting and piercing on Japanese Cedar which give a organic look and feel, several coats boiled linseed oil then sealed with several coats of satin lacquer giving a matt finish with satin highlights, 270mm long x 170mm diam
Asian influenced teapot. Body is one piece of plum turned square with hand carved purple heart handle, spout and lid. Lid has traditional macrame lid tie. The embellishment is hibiscus. Finish is tung oil and citrus thinners. Dims 200 x 150mm.
Large Segmented Jug made from Maple, 363 segments, 500mm high, 330mm wide (not including handle) 1 piece hand shaped handle made from Maple.
Macrocarpa hollow form with black maire rim colored finished with Beall buff 13 x 18 cm
This macrocarpa ornamental bowl is embellished with an inlay of resin and paua shells on a royal blue background and finished with the beall buffing system. Size is 160mm x 50mm.
Hollowed form from cherry laurel. Carved and textured and finished with Indian ink, acrylic paints and acrylic matte sealer. Spikes carved from smoke bush and glued in with epoxy, then oiled to retain the vivid yellow colour. 44 cm length.
Pushing the experimental boundaries further; a decorative showpiece includes the stand. A combination of layering and foreshortening techniques gives a 3D effect. 310 Dia. x 70 H. Swamp Kauri, epoxy resin. Airbrushed designs. Mirotone 3242 sanding sealer, friction Carnauba wax.
Experiment in techniques and, like my school reports, "Could do better" comes to mind. Proved the theories sound enough, but with room to improve. 110 Dia. x 190 H. Macrocarpa, epoxy resin, coloured, airbrushed designs. Mirotone sanding sealer, Museum Polish.
Small bowl on long legs, turned and carved in one piece. Oak, finished with paint and Danish oil. 13 cm x 7 cm, 11 cm high

A Streptohedron Shape that has been turned and hollowed on the lathe, and then pierced. Made from Houhere (NZ Lacebark) with a seperate NZ Puriri wood stand that was turned "inside out". Danish Oil finish. Size: H130mm x W130mm x L130mm. Stand: D55mm x H45mm.
Segmented sphere and square base. Made from all recycled timbers, being Rimu, Kahikatea and Jarrah. Sphere is 210mm diameter. Base is 245mm square.
