This is a lattice bowl made from Magnolia grandiflora. The cuts were made using a router jig which attaches to the lathe. 255mm wide, 40mm high.

Wooden items which have been made into a bowl or platter shape which have been decorated, coloured, textured, embellished or otherwise enhanced.
NZ manawa (mangrove) turned platter. Surprising grain finished with buffed wax. Rim is embellished with carved woven flax mat pattern finished with acrylic paints. Diameter is 390mm and height 45mm.
Ancient kauri 480dia x 45mmh. The carved rim represents where land joins the sea. The ripples being the tidal waves and the dappled texture being sand. The carving is hī ika to fish with a line. Lacquer and gilders paste.
Pohutukawa turned wet and warped to a slight oval with pyrography mantas swirling around. Finished in Osmo oil and wax. Diameter is 126mm and 120mm and height is 65mm
Rimu ,Harakeke ( NZ Flax ),Paua 355mm x 45 mm
Maui platter is a shallow bowl inside a containing ring depicting Maui lifting Aotearoa from the sea (paua )and forming Aotearoa the land represented by the koru design and secured in the ring by harakeke (NZ flax) on the handles.
Created from camphor laurel with beading this piece utilises the grain structure to depict a moon landscape. Finished with ondina oil and Beall buffed to a semi gloss. W: 340mm (H 380mm with black stand)
Heart rimu, 2 pot clear satin lacquer. 12 facets calculated and scribed then cut using a drop saw. Chamfers are cut with hand plane and facets smoothed with hand plane.
A camphor bowl with blue laser holographic mica powder in polymer resin. Cones are: [long] red cedar [small] canary Island pine cones. Dia 300mm x 50mm deep. Five coats of lacquer. Buffed Yorkshire grit.
Taupo pine cones with 7 litres of resin , 40 mm x 450 mm diameter
A small bowl made of pin oak. Decorated with the use of pyrography and acrylic paint. A pleasure to view, hold and cup in the hand. it measures 125mm maximum diameter and stands 58mm tall.
Green turned pōhutukawa, soybean oil, beeswax and carnauba wax. Dimensions: 20 cm diameter, 11 cm high.
Puriri 110dia 190h. The native pigeon (kererū) delights feeding on the berries of the majestic puriri tree. The external texture represents the bark of the tree with three feet blended into the leaves give a majestic reach for the sky.
This charming undercut puriri bowl, buffed with friction wax, is 215mm x 79mm. The strong parallel lined heart wood pattern eases into circular sap wood patterns. Holding it is pure delight, smooth, not heavy, distinctive of the dense puriri timber.
Twin bowls with randomly placed different woods through the bowls. Woods pohutukawa base with walnut, scarlet oak, manuka, barberry, rewarewa, kowhai, and purple heart. L. 300mm, W. 150mm, D. 40mm.
This tanekaha was rescued from a swamp to live again as this sweet bowl. Light to the touch and pleasant to the eye, it rests on three small feet. 220 mm x 80 mm, Finish Danish oil, buffed and waxed.
This decorative 290mm by 75mm bowl is friction wax finished, has a slightly undercut rim. Small growth ring circles ripple out and across the inner base of the bowl revealing the deep golden glow unique to recycled ancient kauri.
Pohutukawa rice bowl with 22 karat gold leaf and braided leather embellishment. 160mm w x 85mm h. Base 88mm. Finished in CA glue and wax.
Made from pine depicting the tidal movement on the sand. This piece is blow torched highlighting the grain structure, wire brushed and painted iridescent blue and black. Finished with sanding sealer and waxed. W185mm x H60mm.
