A chess set that doesn't take itself too seriously.  The pieces are made of ash and ebonised pohutukawa.  The board is made of albizia with ash and ebonised pohutukawa inlaid pieces.  Board 650mm, tallest piece 115mm.

As I was carving the feet of this, a tui came to our kowhai tree.  It inspired me to carve the opening of the vase in a silhouette of the head with its two distinctive feathers.  Olive wood 150mm tall.

Is the cross holy or hollow?   Is it faith or self-destruction burning inside?  Are the tears running down from God or the survivors of abuse?  But among the madness the seed of hope is growing.  Olive 925mm, LED lights.
